SKHynix takes advantage of the AI wave to expand HBM
SK Hynix is heavily betting on the artificial intelligence boom, hoping to drive its continued growth in the second half of 2025. This South Korean chip manufacturer expects strong demand to continue driven by large-scale artificial intelligence model training, autonomous artificial intelligence projects, and new product releases.
SK Hynix plans to double its HBM sales by 2025, thanks to strong demand for its already mass-produced HBM3E chip. The company is still preparing for the next generation product HBM4, with the goal of achieving commercial launch in 2026 after distributing early samples in March of this year.
In addition to HBM, SK Hynix also plans to begin shipping LPDDR based server modules later this year and expand its GDDR7 product line for AI graphics cards by launching a new 24Gb chip. In terms of NAND memory, the company will maintain a cautious investment strategy, prioritizing profitability and expansion of enterprise grade solid state drives (SSDs) based on QLC.
SK Hynix has confirmed that its M15X manufacturing plant will start production as planned in the fourth quarter, with production including HBM expected to begin next year. The Longren Cluster1 manufacturing plant is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2027. The company also stated that its capital expenditures for 2025 are expected to exceed previous forecasts.
