Market Shift in Serial SRAM
Before the rise of the IoT and wearable device markets, the profit margins of Serial SRAM were not substantial enough to attract widespread attention from mainstream SRAM manufacturers. In fact, the key players in this field were primarily Microchip and Onsemi, for whom SRAM business represented only a small portion of their overall revenue and was not a core focus. On the other hand, leaders in the Static RAM market, such as Cypress,ISSI,and Renesas, had long concentrated on the development and promotion of Parallel SRAM.
However, this landscape is undergoing a transformation. As the commercial opportunities for Serial SRAM gradually emerge, traditional SRAM manufacturers are expected to progressively enter this domain. In future product roadmaps, capacity and bandwidth will become two key driving forces. It is noteworthy that Cypress,a market leader, has already incorporated Serial SRAM into its development plans for Asynchronous SRAM.In fact, the merger between Cypress and Spansion enabled Cypress to acquire the HyperBus technology pioneered by the latter. This technology can achieve transmission throughput of up to 400 MB/s through a serial interface, with performance even surpassing some DRAM solutions.
As more major manufacturers strategize their entry into the Serial SRAM market, developers will gain access to more efficient serial storage solutions.Serial SRAM,characterized by its high throughput and compact size,is poised to gradually replace current embedded SRAM and parallel SRAM,becoming a critical choice in the memory architecture for numerous circuit board designs.
